School Council: A Message from Ella R, the Outgoing Prefect

Friday 22 March 2024

ELLA R, SCHOOL COUNCIL PREFECT

As my time in the role as School Council Prefect is coming to an end, I wanted to update you on all of the great work my team has done.

We have had a very successful and exciting year. We have had great communication between pupils and the School Council body with suggestions from every year group leading to successful outcomes. We have invited staff feedback and have had Governors attend meetings.

Some examples of our achievements this academic year are:

  • There is a water bottle option now on the packed lunch form. This will avoid plastic waste as more pupils now bring in their own water bottle.
  • We have been discussing new trouser and legging styles and have received samples that we have been looking at in our meetings.
  • Many year groups have been asking for socials with other schools and we are looking at organising socials for Years 7 and 8 in the Summer Term.
  • Year 11 have raised concerns about how music lessons have caused them to be missing the same lesson. There is now a case by case basis for music lessons to avoid pupils missing the same lessons.
  • We now have a Culture Society that all pupils can attend and enjoy some games or talking to other pupils in all year groups.
  • The PSHE and Academic Scholars’ programmes have been reviewed and changed from suggestion forms given to pupils.
  • Allowing Upper Sixth students to leave for lunch is considered on the basis that the student has a 93% or higher attendance record.
  • Many pupils cannot keep up with the volume of emails coming into their inboxes. However, now a video has been made and sent to all year groups on how to organise our inbox and setting up email folders so we are able to check our assignments or announcements more easily.
  • Sixth Form students have chosen their own lanyard so that they are still part of the Queenswood bubble.
  • We have been involved in deciding the seating for the ABC classrooms.

We have had many more successful outcomes from pupils’ suggestions and I am looking forward supporting the transition for our new Student Council Prefect which will enable them to continue implementing pupils’ ideas around the school.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Ella R
